Me too. If we were somehow adding Kemba and keeping Horford I'd feel this was a straight upgrade, in practical terms.

I got downvoted at one point in like March for saying I'd gladly trade Kyrie for a worse player who was a better fit for us. Subsequent events have firmly reinforced that opinion.

As it is, given Horford's also leaving, I don't see this returning us to the "top tier Eastern Conference team" status we had two years ago and last summer, but it's still a nice balm for the wounds if it happens.

Bigger wings provide Kemba the luxury of hiding on defense. Under Boston's defensive scheme where they have good defenders at the other positions, Kemba will be able to focus on offense. Unlike in CHA, Kemba does not have to take the offensive load all by himself though. Tatum and Hayward can create and have Kemba spot up. He is a good spot up shooter and a willing passer so your offense will hum better than it did with Kyrie (even though Kemba is not as good as Kyrie in isolation or shots at the rim).

There are still questions that need to be answered for Boston like, "What does the loss of Horford do to their defense?" "Is Gordon's confidence back? Can he be 80% of the Utah Hayward?"

They don’t have the cap to trade back in that deal without giving up one of Smart, Tatum, or Jaylen. Capela or Adams are only options if they don’t sign Kemba.

I guess, they also lost Horford which IMO is a bigger loss than Kyrie. There's still stuck with Hayward and his contract, they'll also end up losing some bench depth. I think they'll be stuck in the midfield and won't be fighting for the top spot in the East with little to no upward mobility.
